"my annual appointment with myself"....the one day you don't plan around anyone else's schedule, don't wait for anyone to show up or guess what you want. and this, loneliness is feeling disconnected, solitude is choosing peace. as a mom who pours out all year, claiming one day (or as many as you want) to pour back into yourself isn't selfish, it's survival. "I stopped waiting for someone else to make me feel special. I decided I already was." added this concept to my life, long ago, never looking back mm 🤎
This resonates so deeply. When you are constantly pouring into others, choosing solitude on your birthday is incredibly healing, and claiming that time for yourself is the ultimate act of reclamation. I’ve practiced a strict solo birthday ritual for years from midnight until 5 pm, then dinner with my children, treating that window as a sacred transition period between my seasons.I use that quiet space to run a high-level audit across every area of my life:mental, physical, spiritual, relational, and financial. It is my designated day to look closely at my goals and current systems, intentionally letting go of what no longer serves the vision for my life. That means fiercely deciding who gets to enter my next season, setting hard boundaries, and eliminating any hindrances. Turning down the world's noise to upgrade your personal vision isn't selfish; it’s necessary for growth. Thank you for normalizing the power of our own company.
As an only child, I’m very happy spending time alone. And yet, I weigh the disappointment of my family if I said I wanted to spend my birthday alone. I still think the solo time as an appointment is doable though and I love the idea of checking in on the important things in life.
