Why Cruises Are the Perfect Trips for Solo Moms
If you know anything about me, you’d know that I’ve always been an avid traveler. Literally since the age of nine. And becoming a mother didn’t stop that. In fact, it gave me a reason to come up with exciting new adventures for me and my little bambino.
So in 2023, I booked our first cruise together. And chile, I was nervous! It’s one thing to take a road trip to the beach but it’s a whole other thing to board a ship and cross international waters… alone… with a toddler!😩
I had about a hundred “what ifs” running through my head: What if he gets bored? What if it’s not safe? What if I spend the whole trip chasing him around and never get to relax? But the second we stepped on that ship, something shifted. The vibe was exciting, my son’s eyes lit up at the kids’ club, and for the first time since becoming a mom, I found myself sitting on a balcony doing nothing in peace. That moment right there was when I realized — cruises are a single mom’s secret weapon. And I haven’t looked back since!
Why Cruises Work for Moms
💰 Affordable (mostly all-inclusive options)
As single moms, we know every dollar counts. A cruise is like the Costco of vacations—you pay one price and BOOM—you’ve got meals, entertainment, lodging, and transportation all wrapped up.
Now of course there are upgrades and additional packages you can purchase but if you’re looking to just pay for your cruise, set it and forget it, that’s totally possible! No nickel-and-diming for every little thing, no stressing over where to eat or what to do. It’s budget-friendly without feeling cheap.
🛟 Safe (ship environment + staff)
Safety while traveling solo with my child is always at the top of my list. On a cruise, you’re in a contained environment with staff everywhere, cameras, and trained professionals who know what they’re doing. And of course NOTHING is 100% fail-proof so you still must remain vigilant especially at port. But at least you’re not dragging your kids across a city on your own—you’re in a floating resort designed for families.
Bonus: Always book your excursions through the cruise to ensure a continued layer of safety.
😴 Rest (kids’ clubs + entertainment)
Sis, let me tell you about kids’ clubs. They are the Holy Grail🙌🏽. Your kids get to make friends, play, and do all the fun stuff they love—while you get a nap, a spa day, or just a hot meal without anyone asking for chicken nuggets. Everybody wins. They are usually separated by age groups so the younger kids aren’t overwhelmed by the older kids and the older kids aren’t annoyed by the younger kids. And best of all, 🗣️IT’S FREE!!!
⚖️ Flexibility (solo time or family bonding)
The beauty of cruises is you get to pick your vibe. One day, it’s all family pool time, ice cream cones, and silly shows. The next, it’s mama sipping a cocktail at sunset while the kids are living their best life with new friends. You don’t have to choose between family fun or solo time — you get both.
