Let’s talk about this “soft life” everybody’s chasing.
Scrolling through social media, you’d think it’s all about designer bags, luxury vacations, and brunches that cost more than a week of groceries. For a single mom, it can feel like a whole other universe, a lifestyle that’s completely out of reach. Or that we gotta wait for somebody’s dusty son to make it happen for us.
But sis, what if I told you the soft life isn’t about the price tag? It’s a mindset. And it surely isn’t about a man. It’s about intentionally choosing peace, pleasure, and beauty right in the middle of our beautifully chaotic lives. So here’s how we can claim a piece of that peace for ourselves.
1. Your Ten-Minute Morning Ritual
I know the routine. You jump out of bed, chug lukewarm coffee while packing a lunch, and rush out the door feeling like you’re already behind. The soft life version is waking up just ten minutes earlier. It’s intentionally using your absolute favorite mug—not the coffee stained one. It’s sitting by the window, feeling the sun, and actually tasting the coffee before the chaos kicks in. That small moment of peace doesn’t cost a dime, but it sets the tone for the whole day.
2. Use the “Good” Stuff… Today
We all have it. The fancy body lotion from a gift set, the one pair of ridiculously soft socks, the “special”makeup we’re waiting for the perfect moment to use. We’re always “saving” them for a special occasion. Well, here’s the secret: being alive and getting through another day is the special occasion. Use the lotion. Wear the socks. Wear the makeup. Sleeping on luxury sheets you bought on sale… these small upgrades to your daily basics are a powerful message to yourself that you are worthy of nice things, right now.
3. Make Your Space Feel Rich
A soft life feels good to your senses but you don’t need an interior designer for that. It’s the smell of a warm vanilla candle you light after the kids are in bed. It’s the sound of a curated playlist of your favorite slow jams playing while you cook dinner instead of the blare of the TV. It’s the sight of a single vase of grocery store flowers on your counter. Don’t sleep on those grocery store flowers girl! These things cost very little, but they can change the entire energy of your home. Making it feel like your personal sanctuary.
4. Redefine the Ultimate Luxury: Uninterrupted Time
The most luxurious, five-star thing a single mom can have is time to herself. Uninterrupted. No one saying “Mommy!” every five seconds. That 30-minute bath after bedtime is essential maintenance for your soul. Sitting in your car for ten minutes of pure silence after you get home is a world-class retreat. Some of my best work has been crafted in my car.
The soft life isn’t out there somewhere waiting for you when you have more money or more people. It’s right here, in the small, intentional choices you make for yourself today. It’s in the quiet moments you carve out, the simple pleasures you refuse to postpone, and the deep-down belief that you deserve a beautiful life.
