Exciting Indoor Fun: Our Great Wolf Lodge at Perryville Experience
**Disclaimer- This post is NOT sponsored. These thoughts and opinions are of my own without influence or incentive.**
This summer, my little one and I are truly going to be the definition of “WE OUTSIDE!”.
Our first adventure of the season took us to Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville, Maryland where we stayed 3 days and 2 nights in the Wolf Den Hotel Suites. And let me tell you, of all the hotels that we have traveled as a little family, this was hands down (so far), the BEST room for little kids.
As soon as Z walked in, his eyes lit up and he ran around the room! The “Wolf Den” of course was his favorite part. He literally was singing, “You're the greatest mommy there ever was! There ever was!”
He loved that there was a space for him in the room that was separate from mine. And that it was interactive in a way because they made the den “life-like” where it was made to feel like it was a real cave. And even the bunk beds were a hit for him because we all know that 4 year old boys LOVE any excuse to climb on things.
Most themed hotels don't actually offer a themed room so this was a TOTAL win for us!
And one more thing that I wanted to add about the rooms that I thought was GENIUS; your room key is the wristband you receive that gives you access to the water park as well. The convenience of having your room key handy at all times when running after a rambunctious toddler was honestly a life saver for me. I didn't have to struggle with holding his hand, his life vest, his wet shoes, a big pizza box AND look for the room key.
And they also gave you the option to have any charges go straight to your room (as do most hotels/resorts) by charging it directly on your wristband. Now that could definitely be a slippery slope for sure.
A LA CARTE SPENDING
Speaking of charges, let's talk about something that I wasn't too much of a fan of.
The cost of everything.
So until recently, there weren't really any all-inclusive resorts in the states at all. So once you went on vacation at a resort, you knew that you were coming out of pocket for everything.
As a first time mom, I'm still learning not only my child but what a child his age likes and dislikes period. Great Wolf does offer packages for activities and dining but based on how our travels in the past have been I didn't think we would need any of the packages.
MAAANNNNN I was sooooo wrong!
Who knew that a 4 year old liked bowling??! BOWLING?! What the heck do you know about bowling? Yea so that bill wracked up pretty quickly.
I believe the activity package for his age group was like $89 which included unlimited arcade games, bowling and some other things. There was also a dining package which I believe started at about $60.
Minus some alcohol and gift shop purchases, I would have only spent about $150-160 on activities and food.
My final bill ended up being $302!!
Take it from me, GET THE PACKAGE!
SPLISH SPLASH TIME
Of course the water park is the highlight of your the stay. Or as my little swimmer calls it, “The Water Swides!!!”
So let me tell you how MASSIVE this indoor park is!
It is the largest of all their 20 locations.
It’s boasts an incredible 126,000 square footage with a perfect 84 degree year round temperature. There are 22 different water slides, to include 3 slides for the little swimmers and even a lazy river. And you KNOW your girl was coasting around that a few times. With my kiddo in tow of course.
Until he got bored and wanted to hop back on the “swide” again.
And even after 3 HOURS of continuous water fun, I had to pry him away.
So needless to say, the water park is well worth the visit.
Oh and there’s a BAR!! So ummm, yea! Mommy juice for you girlie!! Unfortunately there is no drink package and the drinks were absolutely over priced ($17 for a Mai Tai is a bit much) but you already know that when you’re on vacation that you’re definitely going to be nickel and dimed.
LET’S EAT
So OTHER than the over pricing cause I feel I’ve already WELL established that, the cuisine wasn’t really anything I would make a big fuss over.
Most of the options are no more than what you would find at amusement parks. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, and of course pizza.
They offered a buffet style restaurant, Campfire Kitchen, for breakfast and a sit down restaurant, Barnwood, that offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
There also was a Dunkin Donuts and a Freshwoods Market for quick grab-n-go bites.
If you are a foodie, do not look for a palette challenge here.
OVERALL THOUGHTS…
Overall, I would say that it was well worth the cost. There are plenty of activities for kiddos of all ages, even the older ones (there’s this crazy sky walking thing that I personally have ZERO interest in… Got my pressure up just thinking about it).
Yes you might have to put in an extra shift or show a little leg on the highway, but when you see the huge smile on your little one’s face or hear them chanting how great of a mom you are, you will know that it’s all worth it.
I would definitely go again but next time be a little more prepared for any new found interests of my ever evolving toddler.
